3.55 ct / 7.3 × 13.3 mm — Beautiful intense Red Oregon sunstone with a subtle light zone of copper schiller at one end. We wanted a One of a Kind gem project for Christmas Day, and this design from April 2025 by Stephen at Gems of Science fit the rough and the time we had on hand. The Radiant Rupee cut was ideal, and after we adjusted the angles to suit this colorful feldspar, the gem came to life. Photos capture its changing eye-clean personality under different lighting — an indoor LED light box and a partly sunny Montana sky were used as light sources. Tilt the stone back and forth and the flashes of schiller dance along its length. Christopher Rose of High Desert Gems & Minerals supplied the rough at the 2025 Tucson Gem & Mineral Show, and The Gemstone Man, LLC performed the lapidary work.
